JOSEPH JOHN M. FRANCH whose origins are in Castellon, and with Valencian as his mother tongue, is from Madrid and was born in the 'Ventas' district, near "The Monumental", when 'Ventas' was
'Ventas'. It was the day of the Lottery in 1952. He is married to the Professor Doctor Rocío Oviedo y Pérez de Tudela, and they have three children: José Juan, Rocío and Fernando. He says that he has always been an economist and businessman, like everyone. He is Professor of Applied Economics in the Autonomous University of Madrid lecturing on Political Economy, The Treasury, and Economic analysis of Law as well as the doctorate course on Constitutional Economy in the faculty of the same name. Since the 6th of March 1999, he has been the Spokesman for the Tribunal for Competition Defence of the Kingdom of Spain.
Of his scientific work it is necessary to highlight the books "Fundamentals of Economic Value" that constitutes an original contribution to the classic theme of the Economy - and "The Economic Strength of Freedom" where he points out that the intellectual, free and responsible nature of the human being, with his open capacity for personally presenting reality, generates a process of practically limitless increase in economic value. He has likewise collaborated with a chapter in the collective books "The Ethical Dimension of Financial Institutions and Markets," "The Businessman in the New Socio-economic Framework," "Company Necessities in the Year 2000", as well as in the book "The New Community and Spanish Competition Law." He has also published several studies in diverse economic publications on the Fundamentals of Tax Progressivity, Economic Development, the Environment... etc. He is a member of the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN). He also belongs to the Club Tomás de Mercado and is manager and founder of the Lontananza Foundation. He is an excellent reporter and commentator on economic themes, he has written hundreds of articles and comments in the specialized (especially in La Gaceta de los Negocios) as well as general daily Press (mainly in Diario 16). He also writes regularly in the international press. He understands that Economics is a human science and that it is not at odds with Literature and Journalism. |
